Summary – 40-year-old Andy Stitzer has done quite a few things in his life. He's got a cushy job stamping invoices at an electronics superstore, a nice apartment with a proud collection of action figures and comic books, good friends, a nice attitude. But there's just one little thing he hasn't quite gotten around to doing yet--something most people have done by his age. Done a lot. Andy's never, ever, ever had sex--not even by accident. So is that such a big deal? Well, for Andy's buds at the store, it sure is. Although they think he's a bit of an oddball, there's certainly a planet full of stranger (and homelier) guys who've at least had one go at having a go. They consider it their duty to help Andy out of his dire situation and go to great lengths to help him. But nothing proves effective enough to lure their friend out of lifelong chastity until he meets Trish (Catherine Keener), a 40-year-old mother of three. Andy's friends are psyched by the possibility that "it" may finally happen...until they hear that Andy and Trish have begun their relationship based on a mutual no-sex policy.
Storyline – I found the story pretty entertaining, I was wondering what was going to happen next, and how Andy (Carell) is going to do, and how is he going to approach the situation, I cared for the characters, and the plot is nothing that I have seen before, this film took turns that I thought that was great, seeing this guy Andy and he is a really nice guy and he treats woman with respect and he respects them by not being near them, and you have these three guys who are telling him all the wrong advice on how to be in a relationship and I could clearly see why they don’t have such a great love life themselves.
Camera Movements – this movie was filmed perfectly, this is a film that needs the right angles, distances and movements and this film had it all right, and the filming locations are great, and I can see the apartments and the city it looked great it felt like I was there experience all the events seen on the screen.
Background – the filming locations looked great, the supporting cast is great, I did like seeing the small short actor Cameos, for example (Jonah Hill, Kevin Heart, and many others that I won’t spoil) you know at first I thought I saw Jonah Hill when I first saw him, I knew it was him, but I had to remember that he was younger when this film was filmed.
Character Development – the characters backgrounds were introduced to us with their actions, and I liked it, it’s the best way to introduce the main characters and plus some of the short characters to the audience, Steve Carell’s character has to be the one to steel the whole show, well obviously he does the film is all about his character, but I like when the main character is the one taking the show, I do like other films that the supporting cast takes the show, (Like Robin Williams in Aladdin), the characters were introduced greatly, there characters were funny, and great to see in this film.
Acting – Steve Carell this has to be one of his best films by far, this is the year after he played in (Anchorman The Legend Of Ron Burgundy) and I loved him in that film, and still love him in this film, to be honest I think he plays as himself a really nice man, Catherine Keener her character was really nice and she had this great enthusiastic acting style if I say so myself, her acting is spot on, Paul Rudd I didn’t acting recognize him in this film, I know this is 11 years old, but he has changed since then I see, his acting is great, his performance is great, Seth Rogan my god he looked really young, he is still that funny guy to see in films back then today, his acting is great, his performance is great.
Editing – the editing for this film is great, the plot made sense, the story was well written, the soundtrack was great, the visuals were great, the story telling was well done, this is a film that I can recommend to people who like Romantic comedies.
Audio – the soundtrack to this film is great, the sound is great, the audio was great, it’s nice when you get a great film like this with great soundtrack to help the emotion, (Warning Spoiler) it was sad when Andy & Trish have that fight at the house, and the soundtrack really brought the emotion in that scene.
Visuals – the visuals in this film is great, the lighting was great I could see the detail in Andy’s Apartment with all his Action Figures, The Tone of the film is great, the setting was great, the atmosphere was great.
Direction – this film is directed by Judd Apatow and the other films that he has directed is (Knocked Up, Funny People, This is 40) and I found his directing pretty good for this film.
Personal Opinions – in my personal opinion the film is better than I was thinking that it was going to be, I had friends suggesting it to me, then I found it at JB HI FI on Blu-Ray for $10 so I decided to give it a shot and I ended up loving it, I might give the expanded edition a shot in the future.
Conclusion – for the final verdict I give this film a 8.5 out of 10, a great Romantic Comedy.
